An Investment today....

A few years ago, through our allocations to our partner network we purchased a van for Hospitality House. In 2020, over 500 rides were given for medical appointments, 768 people were transported to a service provider, and 2,534 meals were delivered to residents in need.

A Guide to Charitable Giving

United Way of Nevada County understands the impact that charitable giving has on improving communities and helping individuals. United Way also understands how important it is to choose the right organization to donate your hard-earned dollars. As you prepare to make any type of charitable gift, we urge you to follow the simple guidelines below.

CHARITABLE GIVING

PLANNED GIVING

Find out the different ways you can plan your donations ahead of time.

DONATE STOCK

Giving long-term, appreciated securities (owned more than a year) may provide greater benefits to you and United Way!

  • You may save current income for day-to-day needs because a gift of stock does NOT come out of your cash flow.
  • You may save taxes two ways: Income tax and Capital Gains tax.
  • You may lower the "cost" of your gift.

How to:

  • You may call or write to your broker and ask your broker to initiate a "broker to broker" transfer.  You would instruct your broker to donate the stock directly to United Way of Nevada County.
  • United Way would provide you with the name of our brokerage firm, the brokerage firm’s DTC number, the account name and number, and the telephone number and name of their broker contact at the firm.
  • Your broker can then transfer the securities directly to United Way's account. It is important that the securities be transferred to United Way's account prior to being sold in order to avoid capital gains taxation.

If you wish to inquire about donating stock, please contact us at (530) 274-8111.
